Socks: Git-R-Done (#77: Knit a pair of socks)

A former neighbor of mine had "Git-R-Done" emblazoned in comic sans font across the rear window of his truck. My roommates and I would see it whenever we rounded the corner on our way home and, in response, we'd yell it from our gut in contrived enthusiasm. It's fun; you should try it. It's basically the "Just Do It" style of motivation for the times you find yourself wearing cowboy boots and/or leathers.

But that's not what you're wearing now, so save it for later.

If you're lucky, you're wearing socks like these, the ones I recently finished.

I sent them to my mom for Mother's Day. I'm envisioning her wearing these in her office, which consists of a wing back chair, an ottoman, an end table, a fancy lamp and a stack of books she's reading concurrently.

It's hard to say what color these are, exactly. It's a fancy hand-dyed yarn that sometimes looks like...rusty purple? Other times the blue hues are more pronounced. The photos above kind of capture the subtle color changes.

These are relaxation socks. You can wear them with shoes (they have a reinforced heel for that purpose) but they're a little thick. If you're going wear shoes, it's probably best if they're slippers. Because then it's like double-slippers.

I enjoyed the process of making these, mostly because I was so surprised by how fast I could knit one (in a weekend!). Getting the second one done, though, was a little more difficult. It's what knitters call Second Sock Syndrome. It's why some knitters knit both socks at the same time. In this instance, I just had to give myself a concrete date to get it (-R-) done by. And now I want a pair of my own.

In the meantime, I made myself a hat. I'll show you that soon.
